With the increasing popularity of poker, and the exposure the game gets on
television, there are many recognizable faces. In fact, with the World Series
of Poker’s coverage along with events like the World Poker Tour, many of the
top poker players have become superstars. They are well known, recognizable,
and have reached celebrity status.
Doyle Brunson
A poker hall of famer, this Texas native wrote what is widely considered the
bible of tournament poker play for pros. In his early 70’s, he is one of the
oldest active poker players and claims he will play until he is 80. Now
surprisingly, this life long gambler now calls Las Vegas home.
Johnny Chan
Another poker hall of famer, Chan was the idol of Matt Damon’s character in the
poker movie “Rounders.” Perhaps the best known player in the world, Chan was the
winner of back to back world titles in 1987 and 1988.
Annie Duke
This sister of world champion Howard Lederer is probably the best known female
poker player in the world. She has been a full time pro for 10 years now, and
has the interesting habit of playing barefoot.

Annie Duke’s big bro is the true champion of the family having won a World
Championship in 2001. Before making the switch to poker, Lederer was a well
respeted chess player. His other sister, Katy, is a poet. Howard’s nickname on
tour is the “Chessmaster.”
Layne Flack
Flack is considered the party boy of professional poker. This 30-something is
said to have no fear when playing. He won consecutive World Championships to
earn the nickname “back-to-back.” His aggressive and unpredictable style of
play makes him someone other players fear.
T.J. Cloutier
Cloutier went from pro football player to poker superstar/author. He has written
three books on the subject in addition to having won 51 tournaments. He is the
all tiem money winner at the World Championships. Cloutier spent time in the
army as well as playing football in Montreal and Toronto.
